A knot is hidden inside the casing of the shoe. Simply untie and retie to adjust for a tailored fit. A safety pin could help get the knot loose. Hide the knot back in the casing and you're good to go!

Oh, and if your kiddo is distracted by the extra elastic that is hanging around (I kept it long on purpose so it's easier for you to untie) you can just snip that off if you don't need to adjust again.
